Johns Manville Roofing Volunteer Day

A team of 21 Johns Manville Roofing Systems employees recently spent a morning pitching in at Food Bank of the Rockies as part of the company-wide Global Community Day.

Now in its sixth year, Global Community Day has helped volunteerism weave itself into our company, from bottom to top, throughout the communities where JM operates around the world. Volunteerism is included in JM’s sustainability goals because we want to deliver positive JM Experiences where we live and work.   

While some companies focus community investment activities on one issue or organization, JM’s focus is on our employees. JM’s community investment program is employee-driven, meaning we want to support the causes and programs our employees care about. We encourage JMers to give back to their communities by donating their time and treasure to issues and programs close to their own hearts.

At Food Bank of the Rockies, JMers had two “jobs” — pulling orders and creating pallets for delivery to the food bank’s partner agencies and creating weekend food bags. In all, they loaded 49 pallets, totaling 31,816 pounds of food that will provide 25,717 meals, and 1915 bags with 6,779 pounds of food that will provide 5,649 meals. The bags ensure kids who receive many of their meals at school will still have nutritious food to eat on the weekends.

“The mission of Food Bank of the Rockies is to ignite the power of community to nourish people facing hunger,” according to its website.

It provides food and necessities to people in need through signature programs and by teaming up with hundreds of Hunger Relief Partners to serve communities across Colorado and Wyoming, the largest food bank coverage area in the contiguous United States, according to the site.

"Having our teams come together for the greater good of the community is as fulfilling on a personal level as it is impactful. Everything we did today will be used and will improve someone’s wellbeing,” said Jamie Treglio, Roofing Systems Marketing Manager.

Mandy Schweitzer, director of Owner Services and Marketing, said, “this community service event was a heartwarming success! With an incredible turnout, Owner Services, Marketing and Product Management came together to feed hundreds of kids by building meal bags for Food For Kids and building food pallets for various meal charities.  This day was truly about fostering unity and making a real difference. Together, we built stronger bonds and brighter futures.”

Volunteering at the food bank was just one of more than 30 projects to which nearly 500 JM employees across the globe gave their time and energy. Those efforts totaled more than 1,560 hours volunteered.
