Let’s face it: summer is loud. From booming fireworks to your next-door neighbor’s rowdy pool parties, the volume gets cranked up to eleven pretty quickly. Options may seem limited, but believe it or not, there’s something you can do in your walls that’ll make a difference: insulation. That’s right, the insulation in your walls can reduce sound and make things a bit quieter. But which insulation do you need to achieve sound reduction? JM has a few products that’ll get the job done. But first, we need to understand the different types of noises: airborne and impact noises.
There are two different types of sound. The first is airborne noise. Airborne noises come from outside the home and can also include sound within the home. Examples include, but aren’t limited to, music, TV, that neighbor of yours and cars driving by. The second type of noise is impact noise, which is created from vibrations such as footsteps, your washer and dryer, and even fireworks if they’re close by. The good news is that good insulation will reduce the impacts of both airborne and impact noises; you just need to figure out the insulation that’s right for you. That’s where JM has you covered.
The first is our Sound & Fire Block® mineral wool insulation, which not only helps with sound control but also with delaying the spread of fire between interior floors and rooms. Made from high-density, noncombustible materials and designed for maximum sound absorption, it also reduces noise transfer between interior walls, ceilings, and floors. JM’s ComfortTherm® Formaldehyde-free™ fiberglass insulation provides excellent temperature and noise control, and comes with a vapor-retarder or without a vapor-retarder for use in hot, humid climates. This product is also DIY install friendly; it's wrapped in plastic, so the installer doesn’t have direct contact with the fiberglass and its tabs make it easy to staple to the framing. Depending on your needs, either will be a great option to dial things down a bit so you can enjoy some peace and quiet.
If it’s getting a bit loud in your home and you could use some new insulation, look into sound-reducing options. Whether it’s airborne or impact sound, JM insulation can help keep things a bit easier on the ears.
