JM is pleased to share the current progress on construction efforts to add an additional TPO manufacturing line in our Scottsboro, AL facility. The new line will enhance the current JM TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) offering, with the addition of 12’ wide membranes. “This new line will give JM the ability to supply our customers with even more product than was previously available,” said Jennifer Ford-Smith, Director of Sales at JM. The capital project is on schedule for commercialization in the second quarter of 2018. At this time, site and manufacturing facility modifications and additions are nearing completion and major equipment delivery is planned for later this fall. The construction team has worked 23,005 hours without a recordable incident. “This is a testament to our focus and commitment to safety and the culture developed through OSHA VPP Star certification,” stated Daniel Blasini, TPO Product Manager.
JM opened their state-of-the-art TPO facility in Scottsboro in October, 2008, to meet the demand for JM TPO. Expansion began at the Scottsboro plant in March 2015. The new TPO production line will bring JM’s total investment in commercial roofing over the past eight years to approximately $200 million. Together with putting money back in the American economy and creating more than 175 jobs, the continued investments allow JM to grow in the industry and extend their areas of roofing expertise and available products. Mary Rhinehart, President and CEO of JM, added that “this significant investment continues the long-standing commitment JM has made to our customers, the industry, our employees and the communities in which we serve.”
State and local officials in Alabama are looking forward to the completion of the expansion as it will provide more jobs and opportunities for residents. “Creating jobs and opportunity in the state is my number one priority, and we are committed to helping Johns Manville achieve success with this project in Jackson County,” said Gov. Robert Bentley. The Mayor of Scottsboro also stands behind JM and stated that “JM has been an important member of our community for eight years. Their recent capacity expansion and the announcement of adding a second line shows the confidence JM has in our workforce to produce the best TPO in the industry. I thank JM for choosing to make this investment in Scottsboro and Jackson County.”
JM TPO Starts Strong, Stays Strong and is Real-World Proven. It continues to be chosen as the most preferred product in blind challenges by roofing professionals. Most importantly, the JM team is ready for the roofing season; they have plenty of inventory, and are looking forward to a successful 2017!
